Chunky Knit How to Guide
A Guide To Hand Knitting Your Chunky Blanket
- Using a table or flat surface, start by unraveling all your wool and with the end piece, make a slip knot. This needs to be the same size as you want all your stitches to be (approx. 3 inch loop).
- Make a braid, reach through the loop you have just created and pull through the working wool. This will create a second loop, continue this method creating more hoops until the braid is the width you want your blanket to be - remember to keep all the loops the same size.
- Now begin the second row, take your end stitch and this time loop from the top and work back along the braid, loop your yarn through each stitch. You can count your stitches to ensure you don’t double loop. Always loop the yarn through from the back not the front.
- Once you reach the end of the row, continue the loops upwards to create more rows. Each time pulling through from behind to the centre of the stitch. Counting each time to make sure there are no double stitches or stitches missed.
- You will now begin to see a braiding effect to your blanket, continue until you reach the desired length of your blanket.
- Once you have reached your last row you will need to bind off your blanket. By looping the yarn back through its self across and over to the next loop. To begin, take your first and second loop, lie the first loop over the second loop and create a pull through loop with your yarn, then lie the loop you have created over the next loop and create a new loop again by pulling through your yarn, going in a horizontal direction.
- Once you reach your final end loop you can pull through the yarn and tie off in a knot to hold your loop stitches all together. Cut off any excess yarn from the end tie.
